El Mago de la Frita
El Mago de la Frita (5828 SW 8th Street, Little Havana, Miami) – this is a popular (greasy spoon) hamburger joint in the middle of the working class Miami strip known as Little Havana – popular enough for President Obama to stop by during one of his fundraising trips to Miami. The restaurant gets its name from the main item served there (Frita Cubana – which is a Cuban hamburger, made of ground beef and chorizo, and topped with potato sticks). “Mago” means “magician” in Spanish –so the English name for this eatery would be “Magician of the Cuban Burgers”. Also served there are Cuban steak sandwiches, various bean soups, bacalao, ham omelets, tropical shakes, and strong Cuban coffee.
