Florida
It is one of the 50 states that make up the American giant. It is characterized as the only territory that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Currently it is distinguished by its large community of Cuban expatriates and its high population growth. The economy of the state is based mainly on tourism, agriculture and transportation. Florida and Hawaii are the only two states in this region that have a tropical climate.
Florida is also renowned for its amusement parks such as Walt Disney World, Bush Gardens and Universal Studios Florida, its orange groves, its winter vegetables and the Kennedy Space Center. Culture is a reflection of multiple influences and inheritances among which are African, European, indigenous, and Hispanic-American. Its most identifying features can be found in architecture and cuisine. Florida has attracted many writers such as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams, and continues to attract celebrities and athletes. It is internationally known for golf, tennis, racing and water sports.
Its three best-known animal species are the American crocodile, the Florida panther and the manatee. These can be found in Everglades National Park in the southern part of the state.
